How to modify Avast Firewall

Avast firewall is much easier to manage than AVG who they took over.  Here’s the basic instructions.

How to turn the firewall on or off

1. Open Avast anti-virus protection main Window
2. Click on “Protection”
3. Click “Firewall”
4. Click the green icon which says “ON’ and it will turn off.
5. if off and you want to turn it on, the icon will be red saying “off”.  Click that to turn it green and on.

How to ensure your network is set to the correct privacy level

If you are in your home or office environment, you would consider it private and trusted.  If you are at a hotel or coffee shop for example, you would consider it public or untrusted.  Here’s how simple it is to change.  The first set of steps are exactly the same as mentioned above.

1. Open Avast anti-virus protection main Window
2. Click on “Protection”
3. Click “Firewall”
4. If you are at home/work the arrow as per image below should be pointing to the left to “Private Network”.  Click it to swtich directions if it is not correct.
5. If you are at a public network such as a hotel, coffee shop or clients location, you should have the arrow point to the right to “public Network”.
6. That’s all, no save button to press.  Just close the Window.
