Google’s search algorithm – what does it have to do with SEO?

The link below takes you to a video from Google explaining the inside scoop on them changing their algorithms.  Ofcourse, they don’t tell us what 500 different changes they made, but one of them was making it key that when people search for something, they assume you want to find those companies that are local to you.

For example, I’m #1 when someone searches for “computer repair Markham”, without the quotes.  But if someone searches for “computer repair” and doesn’t specify the city, they assume it is within my city and I still show up at the top of the search engine on page one.  This is because they check the IP address of my computer along with other things, which some people would say is an invasion of privacy.  They are actually spying on our computer to a certain extent to get this information from us.  But how can they provide a great service like this, without gathering some information about us first?  You have to give a little to get a lot.  As long as they are not using any information for ill purposes, then we should have no worries.

The importance with SEO, is that those websites which have been done properly for SEO services, will show up at the top of the search engines.  My own website, www.twinbytes.ca is at the top because of all the work I’ve done on it.  A couple works in progress I have currently were designed by different people in different ways and I’m trying to get them to the top so I can prove I’ve done it.  http://www.primetimeservices.com/ was designed with WordPress, www.protouchlandscape.ca was designed with an HTML software application then uploaded to the web, www.momentslikethese.ca was done with a online managed application which gives no options to editing the HTML coding without having to download the files, manually editing them and uploading again without interfering with the structure of the site so it will still work, and still be manageable by my client.

Another trick, just my mentioning these websites in this blog is going to help them huge!  How?  Well, because my blog is already popular and a pagerank 3, it apparently will make them automatically a pagerank 2.  What is page ranking?  That’s for another article, but it basically gives them more credibility in the online world.  We will find out soon enough if this theory holds true if they appear as PR2 with little extra effort.
