CAN WINDOWS 10 REALLY BE USED AFTER OCT 14, 2025!?!?
This was an article that went out in our newsletter in January 2025 but seems to never got posted here until now. I’m going to simplify this with links to more info straight from Microsoft.
ESU stands for “Extended Security Updates” NOT “Extended Support”. You get updates for security patches. But you do not get support. Security is important, but when you need support because something isn’t working, Microsoft won’t help us, therefore we are limited in what we can do and no guarantees of a solution. TwinBytes will consider helping, but think about it. How much do you want to pay someone to try and fix an issue with no guarantees? This is the problem you face after October 14, 2025, regardless who your IT guy is. We are all in the same position.
It also costs money to get ESU, unless you have a 365 subscription. The cost for business is basically double that of residential. See this following link. https://lnkd.in/g9qVqt58
In the following website you will see the following section that clarifies the limitations:
“Limitations
ESUs doesn’t include the following items:
• New features
• Customer-requested nonsecurity updates
• Design change requests
• General support won’t be provided for Windows versions past the end of support date. Support will be available only to those organizations that purchase ESU for specific situations concerning the security updates. To get technical support, organizations must have an active support plan in place.”

Businesses that may find this ESU helpful are ones than are running equipment that costs well over $10,000 to replace because it won’t run on Windows 11, so they are forced to stay on Windows 10 as long as possible. If you are not in one of those situations, what’s your reason for not switching?
