I had a friend (Anette) ask me: I want to find out who owns a website-is there anyway of getting a name / address / phone # for that person?
There’s websites that help you find the contact information for any given website. Most websites you can find doing a Google search for domain lookup, but they don’t tell you a phone number, address, etc. They tell you who hosts that website and what DNS records they use, etc.
http://www.betterwhois.com/ will show you lots of detail. For example. If you search for who owns microsoft.com is shown at the bottom of this blog after the ======
This website unfortunately doesn’t work for .ca domains. It only searches for .com, .biz, .net, .info, .org domains.
http://www.cira.ca/ is supposed to give a list for .ca domains but doesn’t include as much information as http://www.betterwhois.com/ although, with the information you do get, you can use that as a starting point and go to that host they are with to get more information. They will co-operate if it’s for a good reason and release the information to you or at least to local law enforcement, should it be for legal reasons.
