New Year’s Resolutions – Tech edition

1. Clean up your Desktop

Many casual computer users use the the Desktop as a storage spot for files. Many think it’s easier to find things this way. Unfortunately, just like a real desk, it gets messy and cluttered when there are too many things there.

It’s not just an organizational problem. Computer desktops are not designed to be storage devices. Too many files can slow down your system. The best way to get organized is to create folders to keep it clean and organized.

2. Delete and Archive Emails

Whether you use a web-based or system-based email platform, there’s only so much storage available for old emails. Make one of your New Year’s resolutions to go through your email and delete and archive as much as possible.

If you’re inbox gets too full, you might be missing out on important emails that cannot come in. Once you’ve established a system that works, try to delete and archive emails as they come in going forward. You can make sub-folders if you want to group certain messages together.

3. Back up Photos and Important Documents

Since most of our photos are digital these days, they often end up stored on our phones and computers. These take up a lot of space, but are sentimental and special, so you don’t want to delete them.

Back up your photos and documents to a cloud storage space or to an external hard drive. And if you want some framed or saved, make prints or photobooks using online tools.

4. Check your Anti-Virus Software

Do you have anti-virus software? When was the last time you checked? Does it run regularly? Has it been updated lately? Update your anti-virus software in 2020 as one of your tech New Year’s resolutions.

Protecting your computer is so important! If you don’t have anti-virus software, don’t wait! Get it now.
